JOSEPH SCHELL worked with Kidder, Peabody & Co. in the investment banking division (1973 to 1985), moved his family to the San Francisco, California area to work with Montgomery Securities as co-head of their investment banking group and served on the firm’s Executive Committee (1985-1999) and joined Merrill Lynch & Co. as Chairman of their Global Technology Banking practice (2000-2002). He retired in 2002 and has worked on corporate boards (Dycom Industries, Sanmina Corporation and The Good Guys, Inc.) and several nonprofit boards (Hualalai Ohana Foundation, the Tatnall School) to spend more time with his family and his remaining nonprofit activities.
He continues on the board of the Delaware Grant makers Association and is serving as an executive board member of Sussex Academy of the Arts and Sciences and Chair of the Sussex Prep Foundation funding the expansion of the Sussex Academy of the Arts and Sciences.
Joe Schell graduated from the Tatnall School in 1964, Amherst College in 1968, spent 2+ years in the US Navy as a junior officer on surface ships, and graduated from the Harvard Business School in 1973.
Joe and his wife Deborah have three grown children and seven grandchildren. He and Deborah live in Lewes, DE half the year and in Naples, FL in the winter months.
